It has been in the traditions to get the ear and nose pierced. Now, it has become a fashion too. The only difference is that earlier it was restricted to nose and ears and now there is no part of the body for which we can say that it cannot be pierced. But sometimes when we get piercing done we get problems like swelling or some tiny red spots on the skin and sometimes even worse complication. To avoid all these it is the best to consult a good piercing specialist before getting any part of the body pierced. They will also tell you about the right size and shape of the piece of jewelry that you use on the piercing.
Other than this some skin types are extremely sensitive and they may be allergic such things so in order to prevent this, one must think deeply about which product and brand they buy.
How to choose piercing jewelry?
When choosing any piece of jewelry one must take into consideration the following points:
- Stainless steel is taken to be the safest metal that one must use when he or she is getting the piercing done for the first time. Firstly it does not have any side effects on any type of skin and then it is also not much expensive. There are no allergies with the stainless steel jewelry pieces and this makes the skin somewhat ready for the other materials to be used in the jewelry. There are some grades allotted to stainless steel and the US government has approved the Implant grade to be the best for this purpose. The grade is printed on the pack with the price tag. Check this label before buying it.
- One of the metals that must be strictly avoided is the silver. It has been proved that silver is the metal that causes maximum rotation to the skin and also is far more expensive as compared to stainless steel. The silver jewelry pieces have tarnish on them which when rub with skin make the skin color fade and this is permanent. If such pieces of jewelry are worn for long time this problem of discoloring of skin will not be ever solved. The silver metal must never be worn on the piercing in the genital parts and the oral parts of the body or any other part of the body where the skin remains damp most of the time.
- If you can buy gold then you must buy a gold jewelry piercing which is at least made of 18 karat gold or else it must have 75 percent of gold in it. If you are getting the piercing done for the first time then you must buy a 14 karat gold piece and this can also be tried at the piercing that have healed. If you want to wear piercing on body parts then you must not wear gold plated ones. These pieces get rubbed with the body and then they chip easily. Other than you must avoid white gold too, this is because the nickel in it causes skin allergies to most of the people.
- If you have got yourself any piercing jewelry made of titanium, you must get it polished well before wearing it. The titanium metal contains it some tiny pores which get attached to the skin tissue. This metal is used in the surgical implants. Definitely no one wants to attach the jewelry to the body in fact we just wear them, therefore, polish the titanium jewelry before wearing it. This will reduce the number of pores it has.
- When any jewelry is used for body piercing you must check well that it must not have any scratches or any other kind of imperfect. This is a must as these imperfections can cause damage to tissues of the skin. All the pieces of jewelry must be thoroughly smooth and also sterilized.
Some other points to be kept in mind when buying piercing jewelry:
- Always check the size of the piece that you pick. If the size is too small it may block or reduce the circulation of the blood in that part.
- There are some well known brands which provide assistance and guidance when you pick up your piece of jewelry. Consult them when you choose any one of them.
- Always first try easy and inexpensive ones as it is not essential to go with the fashion or trend if it does not your skin type.
